When it comes to anesthesia, many patients remain comfortable with local anesthesia, an injection that numbs only the surgical site. However, depending on the complexity of your procedure and your level of anxiety, you may opt for another choice such as laughing gas or IV sedation. General anesthesia is typically reserved for complex surgical procedures, such as corrective jaw surgery or those involving a hospital stay.
One option to decrease the cost of your implant treatment is to consider same-day dental implants. This treatment involves your surgeon extracting a damaged or decayed tooth and immediately placing a dental implant post into the empty tooth socket. This can only be done if you have enough jaw bone to support the implant. In some cases, we can place grafting material around the implant post during this same visit, allowing the graft and implant post to heal together to form a solid foundation. Immediately replacing a missing tooth with a dental implant leads to less recovery time, fewer office visits, and the satisfaction of consistently having a complete smile.
