Invest in Your Future Health

Wisdom teeth are typically extracted between the ages of 16 and 25. These teeth are removed because there is not enough room for them in the mouth. Because they are large and healthy teeth, they are full of stem cells.

The Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Specialists of San Diego has partnered with Stemodontics®, a premier stem cell banking service. When you or your child come to have wisdom teeth extracted, your surgeon can ship the extracted teeth to a secured medical laboratory. If and when you need them in the future, Stemodontics will ship the stem cells to your medical provider.

What Are Stem Cells?

There are two types of stem cells: embryonic and adult. During pregnancy, embryonic cells develop systems and internal organs, such as the heart and the immune system. Adult stem cells are different because they can survive outside the body much longer than other cells. They also adapt easily to other specialized cells, which means they have great potential for cell replacement and restoration.

Why Should You Bank Stem Cells?

Stem cells have been used in current studies for regenerative medicine. Stem cells differentiate into different types of cells and may help produce what your body needs in the event of illness or disease. Restoring blood cells requires stored cord stem cells. Restoring solid tissue requires adult stem cells, the type stored in wisdom teeth.
